Submitted by admin on Thursday, 15 July 2010No Comment

absinthe_preparingAbsinthe is one of those magical drinks that has a great atmosphere. A lot of people say they have seen a special Absinthe Fairy after drinking too much of it. It is said that the famous Dutch painther van Gogh cut his ear off while having a bit too much of this famous usually green liquid.

Absinthe is usually very strong ranging fro 70% to 90%. Thereby it is not recommended to just drink it. Instead various mixes and methods have been introduced to drink the green liquor. One of the most famous methods is to set a sugarcube on fire above the drink in order for it to caramelize. Instead of a regular white sugarcube we will now use a brown one which makes this whole ritual the Absinthe Czech Ritual.

INGREDIENTS
Absinthe, any will do. Lot’s of alcohol in it.
Brown sugar
Water

HOW TO MAKE
One thing you need is a special spoon but I guess you can use a spoon too.  Pour 3/4 of a regular full shot of absinthe in a sundae glass. After this you put the brown sugar cube on the spoon with holes in it or fork and rest it on the sides of the sundae glass. Pour the remaining 1/4 of the shot of absinthe onto the brown sugar cube, light the brown sugar on fire (put the flame under the spoon). Let the flame burn for a minute while the brown sugar drips into the glass and caramelizes. Stir the caramelized sugar into the glass. Add the water to the glass, stir again. And you’re ready to go  to drink, see the feary or cut your ear off. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS DRINK!!!
